Using the talent and experienced members in the world of Martial Arts and Stunts, Action Film Academy and Screen Action Stunt Association has been in the business of training professional stunt and film fighting personnel since 1991. The Action Film Academy 2007 was a successful year with many in attendance. Students learned from A to Z how to break into the movie industry. Starting with the Basic fighting and falling (head snaps and body reactions) and move toward the more intricate techniques used for fighting on a film set with weapons included. Excitement was in the air when professional swat team instructors taught the attendees the finer points of being a swat team member especially filming scenes pertaining to police work.
Obstacle training was a an essential part of training this year using doors, windows, cars, lechers and much more the students were taught physical reaction that one needs to apply on location. Many weapons were taught this year such as archery and how one's skills are applied to different methods of archery from ancient to modern day. Knife throwing and knife fighting was another opportunity for student to learn the finer point of weapons in film.
We moved on to tram work ratchet work and air bag work. Being taught how to understand how these are used in films that do have this kind of action. Part of the obstacle training included hill top training falling down and hitting your mark. Barrel hits were an important part of understanding body reaction when falling into barrels or falling into obstacles. Zip line training was also included in the instruction.
The most important thing this year was live on set training that everyone experienced with Art Camacho directing the scene and Michael DePasquale producing. Here the students had the opportunity to have experienced the lights, camera, directors, and assistant directors with Art Camacho and Producer Michael DePasquale Jr. and Anthony Errico.
